Testimonies

Anne B., USA (September 2025, Linguistic immersion stay)

You could not have planned a better learning experience!

In my opinion, the most effective way to learn a language is through an immersion experience, particularly one that emphasizes practical application. My two-week stay with Marie was ideal. We spent our time engaged in conversation while doing other things, such as shopping, marketing, visiting historic sites, touring Lyon and its neighboring medieval towns, and visiting Marie's friends and family.    As an advanced learner, I had some doubts about what I could gain through a home stay compared to a school, but Marie quickly identified the gaps in my ability and provided interesting and playful ways to address them. At first, I thought I would miss structured lessons like grammar and vocabulary drills, but everything we did for two weeks was a lesson in itself.  Marie is a challenging teacher who was sensitive to my strengths and needs.  Her home is welcoming and comfortable, and her meals were superb!  I highly recommend a two-week stay.  After one week, I felt I had just settled in and was getting the hang of living in French.  The second week was one in which I felt my confidence growing and my language skills improving greatly.  Mine was a very profitable learning experience. Thank you, Marie.

Marie's word

"What better way to discover or improve yourself in a language than to experience it from the inside: experience linguistic immersion in the home of your teacher of French language.

I welcome you into my home in Saint Bonnet de Mure, very close to Lyon.

You will learn French differently. Of course, there are times each day for formal teaching (during our one-on-one classes), but also for informal learning, sharing with me in my daily life, where you will discover the French language in its context.

I know what I am talking about. I learned English by living in the United States for two and a half years with my husband and traveling extensively. From this experience, I found it's never too late to study a language, and it’s easier to assimilate it by having fun while living in its culture.

If you are curious and want to live an enriching experience, don’t hesitate to contact me by email to get to know me and discuss all your questions."

Bienvenue chez Marie

Theoretical grounding

My educational references

My teaching is rooted in a communicative, active approach. I rely primarily on the CECRL, a common European framework for language teaching. It was conceived of to create a common baseline for language programs and language program direction. The CECRL is often used by instructors in order to evaluate the mastery of a foreign language by a student before and after the process of language acquisition. It describes six levels: A1 and A2 (elementary), B1 and B2 (independent), C1 and C2 (experimental). Here is the website in French (CECRL of 2021): https://rm.coe.int/16802fc3a8 , or in English: https://www.coe.int/en/web/common-european-framework-reference-languages With this communicative and active approach, you will gain confidence and spontaneity. The interactions we will have during class and the daily-life situations we will create and encounter together will quickly build your skills. Communication is the key element to language acquisition. Almost all conversation will be in French with many visual aids, reading and vocabulary, and grammar introduced little by little according to the needs that arise in practical ways and the unfolding of the day. I will also propose optional activities whose purpose is to be fun and interesting, as well as useful for language acquisition. And these activities can be adapted to the individual interests of each student to make them all the more pertinent to learning. Once again, interactions with the Lyonnais will only round out your personal learning experience through its most significant purpose: conversation! Having a personal language instructor will resolve many issues of traditional classroom learning, because I will be able to evaluate your level, understand how you best learn, and respond to your personal needs and interests (all centered on your individual learning style and preferences). An individual teaching approach is a key element of my methodology: the study and acquisition of the French language facilitated by the offer of a unique environment that is relaxed and low-stress. This home-like, immersive environment creates a friendly background for formal and informal interactions with not only me but also my family, my friends, and the neighbors you meet during your stay.
